Freshmen, you begin a new class this semester.
Computer Science
Prerequisite: Functional Keyboarding
Credit: 1
Fee: $20
Schedule: Meets Daily
Computer Science presents an in-depth exposure to computer hardware, operating systems and an introduction to computer programming. Students learn the functionality of hardware and software components as well as suggested best practices in safety, maintenance and software development. Through hands on activities and labs, students learn how to assemble and configure a computer, install an operating system and troubleshoot computer problems as well as learn the basics of structures and functions in computer programming. This course is a prerequisite for the computer networking class offered at NCTHS and would be a good starting point for students wishing to prepare for the CompTIA’s A+ certification.
Computer Science is broken into two main parts, Computer Basics and Programming Basics. We will alternate these two daily.
Both of these have their own Moodle page (found on the list of links to the left) and the password to join is 2011ncths234.
Networking
This week, all of us will review the Semester exam and 1st block will begin chapter 7 while 3rd block will stay in chapter 6 (You must understand this concept of address assignment and subnetting).
Modeling and Simulation/Senior Projects
You will begin your major project for this class. We have already taken a look at topic categories, now it is time to choose one and get to work developing your own model/simulator. Check the Moodle site for time-line.
